🚨

The Mokena Fire Protection District has responded to more than a dozen carbon monoxide (CO) emergencies in the last 48 hours.

Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and potentially deadly. Portable generators can produce dangerous levels of CO, even when you don’t notice anything unusual.

⚠️ PLEASE KEEP GENERATORS AWAY FROM YOUR HOME!

βœ… Operate generators OUTSIDE and well away from your home, garage, doors, windows, and vents.
❌ NEVER operate a generator inside your home, garage, basement, or any enclosed or partially enclosed space.
πŸ”‹ Make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are working and have fresh batteries.

A generator belongs OUTSIDE β€” not in the garage, not on the porch, and not next to your home.

Please take this seriously. A few extra feet of distance can make the difference between a power outage and a tragedy.

Stay safe, Mokena. If you’re using a generator, PLEASE keep it away from your home. πŸš’
